Judy and James - The early
years.
|

Mexican Baja 1000, 3rd
place in class.
|
James Duff bought his first Bronco in 1966 and after
running the local sand dunes, decided to desert race in Baja. At the time,
parts to toughen up his Bronco were scarce, so he made many of them himself.
His modifications were so successful, that other Bronco owners began asking
for his help.
 |
During his career
he raced with the greats, including Bill Stroppe, Mickey Thompson, Parnelli Jones, James Garner, Rick Mears, Walker
Evans, Ivan Stewart, and Rod Hall. He built products to hold up to the
rigors of off road racing while making them accessible to everyone. Supplying
parts for friends in California and customers across the country soon
grew into a full-time business.
Racing gave way to family four wheeling when the family grew from two
to four. James & Judy helped form perhaps the first Bronco only club
- Broncos West 4WD Club in West Los Angeles. The frequently visited Pismo
Beach, the Imperial Sand Dunes and other Southern California spots. |
The
second generation of Duffs grew up in the business. Suzanne started addressing
catalog envelopes at eight years-old and when she turned sixteen, she drove
the '84 Bronco II. Before getting his license, Richard spotted a shell of a
'77 in the back yard and decided he'd like to resurrect it. He and James spent
many hours together building up "Hi Ho Silver". Its build-up lead to the development
of many of our products and it still does today. As they say, necessity is the
mother of invention! When Richard went off to school, he left the Bronco in
Suzanne's trusty hands. Over the last couple of years, she has taken it from
a half cab to a soft top and from old school to new technology! As you can see
in the picture at left, the whole family was pretty stoked about the addition
of fuel injection to the 351W this year! (Watch for more info in the future.)
In
1998, we were privileged to acquire The Bronco Ambulance, outfitted by Bill
Stroppe in 1977 for the Hot Air Balloon Chase Campaign by Ford. We have it on
display in our showroom in Sequim. We're proud to be able to preserve this piece
of history to share with all Bronco enthusiasts. We've included a reprinted
article about it and another on the Hi Ho Silver, in case you missed them.
Along with the catalogs, photography
and ad production, Suzanne coordinates our event schedule and promotions. Richard
is still involved with the business, although his full time job is studying
Transportation Design at Art Center in Pasadena, Ca. Because it is our goal
to provide the best quality customer service from start to finish, we've added
many great people to our staff as we continue to grow. To keep up with the high
demand for the best quality products, we've had to expand our manufacturing,
packaging/shipping departments and add customer service reps. Our entire staff
is dedicated to making your experience with us a satisfying one.
You may notice many customer's rigs are featured as well as photos of our travels
and history. We'd love to see photos of your rigs or events, too. They may even be included in our next catalog or in
our Customer's Rides section. We hope you enjoy our website and find the information
beneficial. Please let us know what you think. We appreciate your input because
we know without your support, our business would not be able to continue offering
great innovative products!
